Often when something goes wrong with your furnace, it’s pretty obvious: Something stops working and you need to get it repaired. Sounds simple, right? But the truth is that sometimes your Apple Valley furnace does something weird, and you just aren’t sure why. Here are some surprising winter HVAC issues, and what they really mean for your system.
Strange Smells When Using a New System
This is usually nothing to be too worried about. If you are like many San Bernardino residents, you probably didn’t use your heating system or furnace much when the weather was warmer. There’s a certain amount of dust that has built up in your system, which will fry when you turn the furnace on. It’s not really a fire hazard, and it won’t hurt your home, but for at least several hours you’ll have to get used to it. Cleaning and maintenance can help reduce the effects.
Ice Where There Shouldn’t Be Ice
Generally, if you are seeing a lot of weird ice on indoor or outdoor units, that means that something has gone wrong. This is most commonly seen on HVAC pumps (furnaces don’t really have ice problems) and often means that your refrigerant levels are off or that your coils need some work. Call up Victory Heating & Air to take a look at your system.
Lots and Lots of Steam
Your heating system shouldn’t be steaming! Sometimes this can happen in the case of leaks or once again a malfunctioning heat pump. While it’s tempting to think that steam is somehow a natural process of heating (and some commercial heating systems do indeed use water to carry heat), if you notice steam from your HVAC system in Rancho Cucamonga, call in a technician to take a look.
Everything’s Working, But There’s No Heat
Remember that just because you can’t see a problem that doesn’t mean the problem isn’t there. If your furnace is working, but you aren’t getting any heat, the issue is probably a little harder to find. It’s often caused by clogs and blockages or other serious ductwork problems.
My Furnace Never Stops!
It is nice that your furnace is working when you want it to – but it shouldn’t be working all the time. A furnace that doesn’t quit (and a house that never quite gets heated) probably has thermostat or fuel problems that need to be investigated.
